Stake Pocket
Within the Chassis & PU Bed system, stake pockets form reinforced mounting points along the pickup bed sides that allow the installation of removable stakes or side boards. This category supports 1932-1979 Pick Up applications where stake pockets are built on to the bed side structure to provide attachment points for cargo containment systems.
Classic Ford pickup beds were designed to accommodate removable wooden stake sides that extended the height of the bed when hauling loose cargo. The stake pocket structure is welded or integrated into the bedside and forms a vertical sleeve where the stake posts insert. This design allows operators to quickly install or remove side boards depending on hauling needs.
Because stake pockets sit at the upper edge of the bed side and are exposed to weather and cargo stress, they frequently show signs of corrosion or deformation. Cargo loads pushing against the side boards can also place stress on the pocket structure, especially when the internal reinforcement has weakened over time.
When the stake pockets and their structural supports are intact, they maintain the bed side integrity and provide stable mounting points for stake sides and related cargo extensions.
The Stake Pocket reinforces the upper structure of the pickup bed within the Chassis & PU Bed system by providing vertical mounting sleeves for removable stake posts. This pocket receives the vertical stake post used to support wooden side boards or cargo racks. Positioned at intervals along the bed side, the pockets distribute load across the bed structure when stake sides are installed.
Behind the pocket assembly, a Bed Stake Pocket Brace reinforces the mounting location by tying the pocket structure into the surrounding bed side framework. The brace helps distribute force from the stake posts into the bed side panel and reduces localized stress at the pocket opening.
Over time, these components often show wear in the form of rust along the pocket opening, bent edges from cargo impact, or weakened braces caused by long-term load stress. If the brace deteriorates, the pocket can flex or distort when side boards are installed.
