Tail Lights & Components
Rear-Mounted Lighting Within the Body & Exterior System
This collection supports the Body & Exterior system by covering the rear-mounted lighting assemblies responsible for vehicle visibility and signaling from the back of the vehicle. Tail light assemblies are installed at the rear body panel or pickup bed and must align correctly to maintain proper light output and visibility.
This category applies to 1932-1972 Passenger, 1939-1970 Mercury, 1932-1979 Pick Up vehicles.
Tail lights are exposed components, positioned at the outermost rear of the vehicle where they are subject to vibration, weather, and road conditions. Proper mounting and sealing are critical to prevent moisture intrusion, lens misalignment, and housing damage. Unlike internal electrical components, tail lights must maintain both structural integrity and consistent outward visibility.
The components in this collection include complete tail light assemblies, housings, lenses, and mounting hardware used to restore the rear lighting units to correct physical fit and appearance. Supporting components such as lens bezels, screw kits, reflectors, and trim pieces ensure the lens is properly secured and aligned within the housing. Gaskets and mounting pads help isolate the assembly from the body panel and reduce the risk of water intrusion or metal-to-metal contact.
Because these assemblies mount directly to the body or bed structure, wear is often visible in the form of loose housings, cracked lenses, or deteriorated seals. Mounting points can become distorted over time, especially when incorrect hardware or missing pads allow movement under normal driving conditions.
Technical & Fitment
Tail light assemblies mount to the rear body structure or pickup bed using brackets, hinge assemblies, or integrated mounting studs depending on application. Proper alignment ensures the lens sits flush with the body panel and maintains consistent light visibility from behind the vehicle.
Each assembly consists of a housing, lens, reflector, and internal socket, all of which must remain properly positioned within the unit. The housing provides structural support, while the lens controls light output and protects internal components from exposure.
Mounting hardware, including screws, retainers, and brackets, secures the assembly to the vehicle. Lens bezels and trim rings hold the lens firmly against the housing, while gaskets and seals prevent moisture from entering between the housing and body panel.
Due to their position, tail lights are especially vulnerable to water intrusion and vibration-related loosening. Inspect the condition of the housing seal, lens fit, and mounting points when restoring or servicing rear lighting assemblies.
Wiring enters the assembly through protected openings in the housing and must be routed in a way that avoids pinching or abrasion during installation.
Fitment will vary by model year.
