Bed Wood
Within the Chassis & PU Bed system, bed wood forms the structural layer between the metal floor panels and the crossmember framework that supports the pickup bed. This category supports 1932-1950 Pick Up applications where wood boards and related components establish the correct spacing, load distribution, and mounting alignment for the cargo floor.
In original truck construction, the bed floor was never intended to sit directly on the steel crossmembers. Wood boards create the intermediate structure between the bed floor and bed subframe while preventing metal-to-metal contact across the bed assembly. When properly installed, the wood boards maintain consistent spacing between the floor, support the floor panels evenly, and allow the bed assembly to bolt down square to the bed and sub frame.
After decades of service, the original bed wood is frequently cracked, warped, or compressed from moisture exposure and heavy cargo loads. Once the wood deteriorates, the bed floor begins to shift under load, mounting bolts loosen, and floor panels can distort. Many restorations uncover missing or improvised wood sections that were replaced long ago simply to keep the truck usable.
Correct bed wood restores the structural baseline of the pickup bed before final alignment of the bed and bed hardware.
The Bed Wood subsystem stabilizes the cargo floor structure within the Chassis & PU Bed system by supporting the metal floor panels and maintaining consistent spacing across the bed assembly.
White Oak Bed Wood boards form the primary support structure beneath the metal bed floor. These boards distribute cargo load across the bed crossmembers while maintaining correct spacing for the floor strips and mounting hardware.
A Custom Bed Wood & Strips Kit provides the coordinated set of wood boards and floor strips required to rebuild the bed floor structure as a complete assembly. When installed together, the boards and strips align the bed floor while anchoring to the underlying crossmembers.
The Front Bed Crossmember To Bed Wood Spacer helps maintain correct vertical spacing between the front crossmember and the wood floor structure, preventing compression or distortion where the bed mounts near the cab.
Wear typically appears as board rot, compression at mounting holes, or swelling from moisture exposure. Once the wood begins to deform, the bed floor loses its flat mounting surface and alignment problems follow quickly.
