Tailgate Molding, Letters, Decals, Finish Panels
Within the Chassis & PU Bed system, the tailgate assembly forms the rear closure of the pickup bed and provides both structural support and visual identification for the vehicle. This category supports 1932-1979 Pick Up applications where trim components, identification markings, and finish panels are mounted directly to the tailgate.
On classic Ford pickup beds, the tailgate panel itself carries a large portion of the vehicle’s rear visual identity. Trim moldings, emblem lettering, and finish panels attach to the tailgate surface to complete the appearance originally defined by the manufacturer. These components do not alter the structural function of the tailgate but define its finished exterior presentation.
Because the tailgate sits in a high-use area exposed to cargo loading, weather, and frequent handling, trim components often become damaged or lost over time. Moldings may loosen, clips may corrode, and original lettering or decals are frequently missing or worn away during repainting or previous repairs.
Restoring the tailgate trim system requires attention to the individual pieces that attach to the panel and the hardware that secures them.
The tailgate trim subsystem within the Chassis & PU Bed system consists of decorative and identification components mounted to the tailgate.
Tailgate Upper Molding and Tailgate Lower Molding pieces install along the upper and lower edges of the tailgate panel to define the visual boundary lines of the tailgate face. These moldings attach using Tailgate Molding Clips, which secure the trim to the panel while maintaining proper alignment.
Tailgate Finish Panels cover the central section of certain tailgate designs and provide a mounting surface for branding or decorative trim elements.
Identification markings are applied using Tailgate Letters/Decals and the Tailgate Letter Decal Set "Ford", which reproduce the factory lettering displayed across the tailgate surface.
These pieces are installed using Pick Up Molding Clips, which hold the molding securely against the sheet metal.
Over time, tailgates commonly show missing clips, loose moldings, faded decals, or misaligned trim from repaint work. When installed correctly with the proper attachment hardware, the tailgate trim system restores the correct visual structure of the rear bed assembly.
Fitment will vary by model and year.
