Tail Lights & Components
This collection supports the Electrical system by covering the rear lighting subsystem responsible for brake light, running light, and rear visibility functions. Tail light assemblies are mounted at the rear of the vehicle and serve as the primary signaling devices for vehicles approaching from behind.
This category applies to 1932-1972 Passenger, 1939-1970 Mercury, 1932-1979 Pick Up vehicles.
Tail lights function as the final output point of several electrical circuits. The running light circuit provides constant illumination when the headlight switch is activated, while the brake and turn signal circuits increase light intensity or flash the light depending on driver input. Because these circuits converge at the rear of the vehicle, the tail light assembly becomes an electrical junction where wiring, sockets, lenses, and housings must operate together.
The components in this collection include complete tail light assemblies, housings, tail light lenses, and mounting hardware used to restore the rear lighting system to proper operating condition. Supporting components such as lens bezels, screw kits, reflectors, and door trim maintain proper assembly alignment. Electrical connections rely on tail light harnesses, crossover harnesses, socket wiring, pigtails, and loom shields that route the wiring safely through the body structure.
Tail lights often reveal the condition of the rear wiring system because corrosion, damaged wiring, or deteriorated seals typically show up here first.
Technical & Fitment Section
Tail light assemblies mount to the rear body structure or pickup bed using brackets, hinge assemblies, and support braces that maintain proper alignment with the body panel. Each assembly contains the housing, lens, reflector, and internal socket needed to illuminate the light when current flows through the lighting circuit.
Electrical power reaches the tail lights through the vehicle’s rear harness system. A tail light harness distributes current to each side of the vehicle, while a tail light crossover harness connects the two sides when the wiring path requires it. Socket wiring and pigtails provide the final connection between the harness and the light socket.
Lens assemblies regulate light output and protect the internal components from weather exposure. Lens bezels, trim rings, and screw hardware secure the lens to the housing, while gaskets and mounting pads isolate the assembly from the body panel to reduce moisture intrusion.
Wiring protection is handled by tail light wire looms, conduits, and shields that protect the harness from abrasion where it passes through the vehicle structure.
Fitment will vary by model year or suspension configuration.
Examine the housing seal, socket wiring, and rear harness connections together when diagnosing tail light problems.
