Lights – Door, Dome, Courtesy, Map
The Electrical interior lighting circuit on 1932-1972 Passenger, 1939-1970 Mercury, 1932-1979 Pick Up vehicles distributes power to dome lights, door courtesy lamps, cargo lamps, and quarter post lights. These circuits branch from the fuse block and are controlled by door jamb switches, dash-mounted dome light switches, or integrated headlight switch functions depending on model year. Unlike exterior lighting, interior illumination relies heavily on ground-switch activation through door jamb contacts to complete the circuit.
This collection supports the wiring, switching, and housing components that maintain proper interior light operation. Power routing includes Dome Light Switch To Fuse Block Wire, Dome Light Switch To Cowl Wire, and Dome Light Switch To Dome Light Wire. Cross-vehicle routing is handled by Dome Light To Dome Light Crossover Wire and Courtesy/Dome Light Crossover Wire. Branch circuits extend through Door Courtesy Harness assemblies and Door Jamb Switch Wire connections. Lamp housings and optics include Dome Light Assemblies/Housings, Dome Light Lens, Dome Light Lens Bezel, Door Courtesy Light Assembly, Door Courtesy Light Lens, Quarter Post Light Lens, Cargo Light Lens & Bezel, Interior Cargo Lamp Bezel, and Interior Cargo Light Lens & Bezel. Socket integrity is maintained by Dome Light Socket Wire and Dome Light Switch Connector components.
Interior lighting depends on clean switch contacts and stable grounds at the body structure.
Technical & Fitment
Interior lighting circuits typically remain powered and activate when a door jamb switch grounds the circuit. The Door Jamb Dome Light Switch and Door Jamb Switch Wire complete this ground path. Corrosion at the switch threads or painted-over mounting surfaces interrupts grounding and causes non-functioning dome or courtesy lamps. Wiring between switches and lamps—such as Door Jamb Switch Wire To Dome Light Wire or Door Jamb Switch To Courtesy Light Switch Wire—must remain continuous and free of brittle insulation.
Crossover wiring like Dome Light To Tail Light Harness Wire integrates interior feed into the rear body harness routing. Movement at door hinges stresses the Door Courtesy Harness and can lead to intermittent operation. Dome Light Switches and connectors must maintain firm terminal tension to prevent flicker. Lenses and bezels protect bulbs while controlling light diffusion; cracked lenses allow heat concentration and discoloration over time.
Fitment will vary by model year or body configuration.
Review interior light switch grounds and crossover wiring before replacing assemblies for intermittent operation.
